I downloaded the x64 image of the latest version and have been attempting to install it on a Dell Optiplex 320 from CD and USB. I even tried a completely different Optiplex 320. A search of the forums returned this thread:

And a quick google returns a whole bunch of results that assisted me (linux newb as I may be) in getting the installer to run. I ended up using the kernel options hpet=disable and pci=nomsi. I was then able to run through the install with no problems. When it tries to reboot after completion it hangs every time. Even supplying the previously mentioned options does no good. It seems that the issue is with GRUB. From what I've read LILO and GRUB2 work fine but GRUB will always hang on this system.
I'm wondering if the installer uses a different version of GRUB when booting off the media than the one actually installed to the drive? It looks as though .97 is the version that is installed. Is there an easy way to get it to install GRUB2 instead? Any other ideas for how I can get it running on this system?
