I'm trying to install 9.4 x64 (USB) to my homebrew "server". I have 4 hard drives installed: 1 PATA, 3 SATA. I have SATA configured in SATA mode in the BIOS (used to be RAID, and according to the BIOS I can't use AHCI mode with the current config and still use my 3 SATA drives).
My problem is that I can't get past the partitioning step of the installer. At first, Untangle would say that partitioning failed on the drives, and then it goes back to the "detecting hard drives" step. I decided to give it a little help and booted up Parted Magic, erased the 3 SATA drives, formatted each as an LVM-PV, then rebooted the Untangle installer.
Then, on first try, Untangle still failed to partition the drives, but then said that LVM drives are detected, and gave me the option to create a Volume Group, which I did, and then create a Logical Volume, which I did as well. Now, I'm sort of stuck where I began.
The installer detects the LVM volume & volume group, and when I choose to install to LVM, it takes me to the screen to manage the LVM VG (delete, remove disk, or "Finish", which I assume is what I need to select to move on in the installer). Every time I select "Finish", it takes me back to the "detecting disks" screen, and I'm back where I began. I've tried this several times, in the graphical and text installer, and have rebooted a few times too, thinking maybe it needed a kick in the butt after creating the VG & LV, all to no avail.
I'm stuck, as I've never worked with LVM before, and I'd really like to utilize all of my SATA drives, as the software raid the system has is not compatible with Untangle, at least during install. I created an Untangle box in the past that either had 1 physical disk or 2 drives in a RAID1 (with a controller), I just don't recall exactly, but either way, everything went smoothly that time, several years ago.
Any suggestions on how to get past this roadblock?
Thanks!
