Hi yall,
I have Dell PowerEdge 2950 with integrated dual Broadcom NetExtreme II.. I'm trying to install untangle 9.3.2 on it. It keeps hanging on the Detecting Network hardware screen, and just doesn't move ahead or give an error msg. I tried disabling all the onboard network cards from the BIOS and still that didn't work. During troubleshooting I decided to install an Older version of Untangle 7.1 and see if that behaves differently than the latest one, and 7.1 gave me the error about non-free firmware files: ql2400_fw.bin and bnx2-06-4.0.5.fw, which seem to pertain to the QLogic and the Broadcom NIC. I would expect the installer to be a little bit more robust in the newer version of Untangle9.3.2 and give me an error msg not just hang there forever (seems silly that 7.1 behaved better).
Now I looked at the ISO image of Untangle9.3.2 and that seems to have the firmware-bnx2_0.17~bpo50+1_all.deb files in it under \pool\main\f\firmware-nonfree\, so I would think that should make it work, but it's not.
As far as QLogic drivers are concerned Im not sure how I could add them to the 9.3.2 installer to see if that is the culprit in it hanging. I wish 9.3.2 prompted me to install them like 7.1 did. Is there a way to integrate them into the installer?
At this point I'm not sure what else I can try to troubleshoot this and make it work.
My backup plan seems to be to install 7.1 and use a USB stick to install the required packages when prompted for them. And then upgrade to 9.3.2 afterwards and hope that works.
Any guidance or ideas on what to do so Im not wasting time would be greatly appreciated.
