does spam blocker revert to lite operation when license expires?

One of my sites was evaluating spam blocker, but now the trial license has expired. The event log says it's still dropping and quarantining spam, so it appears to have simply reverted to "lite" operation.

Is it ok to just leave it like that while the client decides whether to buy a license or not? Or do I need to remove the module and put the Lite module back in?

edit: this is on a 9.4.2 system if that makes any difference to the answer.
